Award-Winning Western Sydney Companies Revealed


Minister Perry addresses guests at the 2008 WSIA Gala Presentation Dinner

Minister for Western Sydney Barbara Perry unveiled the Winning and Highly Commended companies in the hotly contested 2008 Western Sydney Industry Awards on Friday May 23 at a special presentation event commemorating the Award’s 10th Anniversary.

Ms Perry said independent judges selected a total of 22 winners across six major awards – Global Excellence, Excellence in Business Practice, Regional Excellence, Excellence in Innovation, Entrepreneur of the Year and Judges’ Choice.

Speaking at a gala presentation dinner event at Badgery Pavilion, Sydney Olympic Park, Ms Perry said the 2008 Awards had also uncovered some major exporters that are helping to deliver economic stability and greater opportunities to Greater Western Sydney (GWS) and the nation.

“For the first time, two companies have tied for first place in the prestigious Global Excellence Award for Most Outstanding Large Business,” Ms Perry said.

MCutting edge communications technology firm Peregrine Semiconductor Australia at Homebush Bay and water management and environmental technology producer Reln, at Ingleburn, were named joint Global Excellence winners in the Large Business category.

Seven Hills-based road technology specialist, Pavement Management Services won the Global Excellence Award for Most Outstanding Small to Medium Sized Enterprise.

Ms Perry said Peregrine Semiconductor Australia was a unique company with state-of-the-art communications technology that is used in almost every country in the world – and even off world on Mars as part of specially designed equipment developed for space by NASA.

“This is a company driving technology development in communication, aerospace and defence industries right around the world,” Ms Perry said.

“Reln also, is a tremendously innovative firm selling its environmental products throughout Australia, South Africa, Europe, the UK, USA and South East Asia.

“Pavement Management Services has used its many years of specialised road engineering technology to seal lucrative road maintainence contracts across Australia and around the world – partucularly in the Middle East at Abu Dhabi and Qatar.”

MOther winning or highly commended firms exporting their Western Sydney made products to the world include: Industrial Roll Formers at Smithfield, BlueScope Steel at Erskine Park, Lindsay PieMaking Equipment at Emu Plains, ASP Healthcare at St Marys, Aussie Made Software at Glenbrook in the Blue Mountains and BP Solar at Sydney Olympic Park.

Ms Perry thanked the Office of the Minister for Western Sydney for delivering the Awards for 10 years and congratulated the Greater Western Sydney Economic Development Board and the NSW Department of State and Regional Development for their strong partnership support in recent years.

Chairman of the Greater Western Sydney Economic Development Board Clr Alan Pendleton congratulated all the 2008 winning and highly commended companies.

“Winners of the Awards are recognised as top performers in one of Australia’s most important economies – Greater Western Sydney,” Clr Pendleton said.

M“This tremendous achievement demonstrates a genuine commitment to business excellence, which will ensure that Western Sydney remains an economic success, now and into the future.

Recent survey figures have forecast the creation of 36,000 new jobs in Western Sydney. Westlink M7 is committed to providing a safe and efficient road corridor for increasing numbers of Western Sydney commuters as local industry continues to grow at this rapid rate.

Westlink M7’s efforts to reduce travel times and create a safer motorway are proving successful with an independent travel time survey revealing that motorists can save approximately 45 minutes in time and 33% in fuel using the Westlink M7 and the other motorways.

Westlink M7 was also rated NSW’s best highway and awarded a four star safety rating by Australian Automobile Association’s recent Australian Road Assessment Program (AusRap).
